250 young people from the dioceses of Brentwood, Southwark and Arundel & Brighton met at Aylesford Priory for the annual Youth Festival. After listening to inspiring speakers in the morning, young people visited various workshops – art, drama, signing, drumming, the ever popular football and CAFOD’s Climate Justice campaign.
During the workshop we spoke about why climate change is such as issue for CAFOD and the effect of climate change on our partners overseas. We then played a version of the Climate Change game – the winners (and losers) all receiving a Fairtrade bar of chocolate.
Afterwards we had a discussion about what they can do in an effort to reduce their own carbon emissions and to take action for the Climate Justice campaign – making hand prints with a promise to change their lifestyle in the left hand and a message to the Prime Minister in the right hand.
This activity was also offered to young people throughout the day. We were impressed with the knowledge and commitment of everyone.
Young people from the workshop presented the hand prints at the beginning of Mass, celebrated by Bishop Kieran Conry.
