Saturday – Campaigning begins! We began at 9am and after setting up the CAFOD site, complete with giant Jenga and a target game, we were ready to begin campaigning.
I spent the morning “roving”, which involves moving around the arena and getting as many festival-goers as possible to sign campaign cards. This went well and it was great to meet and interact with so many people.
Blue handprints had been sprayed in chalk on the grass to direct festival-goers to the site, where other volunteers were asking people to put blue hand prints on a giant banner.
We were telling people about The Wave taking place on Saturday 5th December in London ahead of the UN meeting in Copenhagen to discuss climate change. Everyone enjoyed this activity and we soon filled up the banner.
Over 600 cards were signed on Saturday, with lots of people asking for more information.
We closed the site around 6pm and headed off to see the bands – The Specials, The Killers and Fat Boy Slim being popular choices.
