Children from St Michael’s Primary school in East Ham heard all about bees and how they help generate income for communities in Brazil.
CAFOD Brentwood has recently recruited several new schools volunteers, and this was an opportunity for one to see an existing volunteer in action. New volunteer Doreen writes:
‘The photos were taken as part of my first CAFOD schools training day, inside a school. I really wanted to be a schools volunteer and had already attended the CAFOD information day and then the first schools training day. Some of the other volunteers were retired teachers with years of experience, I have a couple of years of public speaking experience, so I felt like a novice in comparison to the other volunteers.
I went along today and met Cathy a long standing volunteer, who was also an ex teacher. She was lovely and although she made it look easy, she was very supportive. The school staff were lovely and gave us a tour of St Michaels. The children were so enthusiastic it was a joy to watch.
The day helped me to decide that with a little support from CAFOD and the other volunteers, I would like to have a go, and aspire to be an inspiring schools volunteer.’
