Last Saturday nearly 100 volunteers from the Dioceses of Arundel & Brighton, Brentwood, Portsmouth, Southwark and Westminster came together to enjoy a day of reflection, “The Glory of God is Humanity Fully Alive” .
Following a celebration of our volunteers and sharing some of their stories, the Theology team led a morning of reflection, exploring human flourishing.
The day was good and I am hoping that human flourishing will be the basis of all our work.
After lunch, we all heard about the focus of Lent Fast Day – Colombia. Seeing and hearing the story of Amparo, whose life changed forever when her house in Colombia was seized by guerrilla soldiers. After fleeing, Amparo and her family found themselves alone and angry in a new town. Through CAFOD’s partners, Pastoral Social, Amparo is starting her life again. She’s opened a small business making metal furniture and the regular wage means Amparo can improve her house and pay for her children’s education.

There was also an opportunity to take a tour of the new CAFOD offices, Romero House.
The day closed with Mass in Southwark Cathedral, celebrated by Fr Alan McLean.
Many thanks to you all for such a great day on Saturday. It was good to meet up again with “old” friends and to be reinvigorated.
Special thanks to Paul for the wonderful photos.
