£1500 raised during quiz night at St Thomas of Canterbury, Woodford Green

Elaine & David Underwood, with quiz master Iain

Who? Parish Volunteer, David Underwood, organised a CAFOD Quiz with over 100 friends and parishioners joining in the fun. Quiz master for the evening was Iain, from neighbouring parish, St Edmunds, Loughton.

Why? To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight (all the raffle prizes and refreshments were Fairtrade) and to raise money for CAFOD!

What? The usual quiz night format, using the CAFOD quiz resources (why, what, where, when, who questions with a CAFOD connundrum each round)

Where? St Thomas of Canterbury, Woodford Green hosted the event. Table groups included CWL, Catenians, the music group, and many more.

When? Last Saturday – so why not hold a quiz in your parish or school?

The raffle raised £240 – with gifts being donated by the local branch of Budgen and The Co-operative. Other gifts were donated by parishioners, including Franca Franconi (fruit basket).

The gift for the winning team was kindly donated by Tess and Bob Thompson of the Music Group.

The money raised from the entrance fee and raffle was match funded by HSBC to a total of £500 – thank you!

There was also an opportunity at the end of the evening to show a couple of short videos about Fairtrade. All in all, a brilliant evening – thank you David!
