International Women’s Day 2011

Today is International Women’s Day.

CAFOD was born when volunteer members of the National Board of Catholic Women organised the first Family Fast Day on Friday, March 11, 1960. Two years later, CAFOD was officially registered.

Since then we’ve continued to grow, alleviating poverty and working for global justice.

A beacon of hope
God of light,
spark in us the desire
for an end to poverty and injustice,
and let our actions shine like
a beacon of hope
as we reach out in solidarity
to others around the world.
Help us to bring about a world
where all people have the opportunity
to be creative, use their skills
and work in dignity,
growing in confidence,
and transforming lives.
And may all our work reflect your glory
and your unending love.

Amen.
