Newcastle to Rome – by bike via Loughton!

Paul, Joanna and Adrian

Friends Adrian Echlin and Paul Bacon have spent years talking about cycling to Rome and now it has become a reality. Well … for one of them any way, Paul was only able to get time off from his job as a radiographer to do the UK ‘leg’ of the journey. Adrian will continue alone to Rome.

After leaving Newcastle they stayed in York, Lincoln and Peterborough before arriving for an overnight stay with Joanna and her family in Loughton.

Adrian said ‘I knew it was not going to be an easy journey so to give me the motivation to complete it, I decided to do it for charity and chose CAFOD’.

Adrian from Hull and Paul from Ingleton are pictured here about to set off to Dover via London with Joanna who was on her slightly shorter journey to work of 4 miles, at Chigwell Convent !

Joanna said ‘1,500 miles over 3 weeks is quite a challenge but for anyone who doesn’t have three weeks to spare, the inclination or fitness – why not register for the Lee Valley Cycle Ride on 12th June and choose from a 10 or 18 mile route” For more information visit Pedal against Poverty
