When the CAFOD Group at St Benedict’s College were deciding how to put the fun into fundraising during Lent 2011 they came up with the idea of organising a Dragon’s Den competition.
They gave themselves specific roles: James was responsible for the financial side of things, Eleanor was artistic director, Lucy was charity promoter and Mark was the college liaison co-ordinator. The format and entry fees were decided, posters were made and teachers were approached to be “dragons”.
There were 3 rounds with the winners going through to the final, where the guest dragon was CAFOD schools volunteer, Sean O’Leary.
All the entries were impressive with the top prize going to Michael Topple and Stuart Stafford for their underwater refuelling station.
Other students decided to “Give it up” for Lent – fizzy drinks, Facebook and even McDonalds were among the challenges they faced! Other fundraising events were a cake sale and sponsored silence.
The CAFOD Group are now looking forward to the summer fete and Christmas bazaar.
A cheque for £1898.28 was presented to Denise during a visit to the college. A big thank you to everyone at St Benedict’s, especially the CAFOD Group and Chaplaincy Team.
