John Mills, 19 and Nick Jarvis, 54 both from Loughton in Essex last weekend completed the 100 mile cycle starting from the Olympic Park and finishing down the Mall. Although both are keen cyclists they had never quite made 100 miles in a day and trained hard prior to the course.
They exceeded their aim to finish in under 7 hours with John completing it in 05:29 and Nick 05:55. Nick said ‘the crowd on the route were amazing and just carried you along and with no traffic to think about I could just concentrate on my cycling’.
They are both parishioners at St Edmunds Church, Traps Hill and between them will raise well over £1,000 from friends, family and parishioners. John said ‘I fundraised for CAFOD when I was at Trinity High School and for the past 5 years have volunteered at the ‘Pedal against Poverty’ bike ride, I know the money raised will be put to good use in the developing world’
